Designs on Agriculture
This integrated entrepreneurial project began with students determining a local need and matching a venture that would help to meet this need. Using the Janome 10,000 embroidery sewing machine and software the students trained and practiced creating embroidery items. The students completed a virtual tour of a commercial embroidery site and discussed the overall market. The final goal was for both schools to design and market embroidered items in the school and community. To promote this entrepreneurial effort and to publicize this student industry, the schools worked together to create an example of their embroidery. The embroidery example is a framed quilt representing the top Agriculture Producers for Jessamine County. The eleven areas are featured with an embroidered quilt square. The quilt will be utilized by the Jessamine County Cooperative Extension Service, Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Rob Amburgey, as a visual for presentations highlighting the diversity of agriculture in Jessamine County. The quilt will permanently be displayed at the new Agriculture Learning Center with a plaque identifying the quilt as a School to Career initiative. Designs on Jessamine continues to grow as the students accept embroidery orders from the school and community. School to Career funded this student enterprise by purchasing the materials needed for start up, the framing supplies needed for the quilt display, consulting fees for training, and publicity.
